Leasing POS Systems - So Yesterday!
I saw this headline on an industry web site:
I wonder why there is a question about the desire (or lack of desire, I should say) on the part of merchants to lease POS equipment and systems when they can get the same equipment FREE? Many processors and Merchant Services providers will provide merchants who process through them equipment at NO COST. Some providers offer refurbished, some offer brand new, top-of-the-line from manufacturers such as Lipman/Nurit or Hypercom, some even offer wireless terminals for free.POS Leasing: Tomorrow is another day...
Dramatic changes in the payments industry have turned POS equipment leasing on its head, threatening what has previously been a reliable source of income for ISOs and merchant level salespeople (MLSs) alike. Is leasing going to die off like a dinosaur or emerge triumphant like a phoenix? Right now, the pros don't agree on an answer.
True, leasing a piece of equipment is a write-off, but I am guessing that a lot of merchants can think of other things to do with the money that would be spent on a lease payment of thirty to fifty dollars (or more) per month for 48 months. I KNOW I could!
